In the last week, Q, Kik, Matt, and myself have been racking our brains and putting together this seminar we will be holding on Saturday 10/29 12:00-2:00pm. He is certified in Kettlebells by Maxercise in ’09 and Killing It With Kettlebells in 2013. KiK’s workouts are organic and results focused.

He started his career path in 03′ with his 1st certification and 1st job at LA Fitness. Certified by N.A.S.M. in 04′ his knowledge of the body was based in experience and technical reference. Our New Programs – Stay Fly Muay Thai – Philadelphia

October 6th, 2016

We are now introducing our new programs at Stay Fly Muay Thai.

We have decided to offer 3 different memberships available at Stay Fly Muay Thai. These memberships include our Built to Stay Fly program, Learn to Stay Fly, and Stay Fly Crew programs.

The Built to Stay Fly program is designed to offer Muay Thai with a focus on fitness for the everyday person who wants to get stronger and leaner while increasing their cardiovascular fitness. This program will include classes that are designed to keep heart rates high and build muscle. Don’t want to fight, but want to look the part? This is the program for you.

The Learn to Stay Fly program is designed to offer a very technical Muay Thai class that will equip the student with the tools of the sport. The goal is to teach the students the subtle and complex art of 8 limbs. This program will be technique heavy and teach the student to thoroughly understand combinations and subtlety that separates our style from the rest of the gyms with our extensive experience. This is what sets us apart, our expertise and understanding of Muay Thai that is unparalleled.

Lastly (and most excitingly) the Stay Fly Crew program will be a completely comprehensive training regimen. This program will include both the conditioning intense classes in the Built to Stay Fly program and the technique intense classes in the Learn to Stay Fly program, but will include some classes that are designed for the serious practitioner. These classes will not be available for other students and will be the place that we look to do some sparring and clinching drills as well as some fight tactics and situational drills specific to competition.

Additionally, in this Stay Fly Crew program, we will be looking to offer a goal based personally tailored training program. This will outline a recommended diet, strength and conditioning program, and schedule for training that is based in getting results based on personal goals.

I’m really excited to be offering these new programs and can’t wait to get things going.

Times for class, bag, and strength training

October 5th, 2016

What’s up everybody? I just wanted to clear some stuff up for everyone as to what we offer at our facility outside of classes. We’ve recently updated our schedule. We now offer an open gym for training from 4:00pm-6:00pm daily. This is a perfect time to use the weight training area, hit some bag, or get some work in with your fellow students. This is a great time to utilize the Strength and Conditioning protocol, which is provided daily to follow. Also, this is a great opportunity to get some Sparring and Clinch work in with your teammates.

Previously, we had specific times for Sparring and Clinching as well as Strength and Conditioning. Now, we will include those into the Open Gym times. Additionally, students will have free reign of the strength equipment during all times that we are open at the gym. Lastly, during classes, we will ask that students not hit the bags. However, as the warm up for each class begins, during jump rope and shadowboxing, students who are not taking the class are welcome to hit the bags. We just want to perpetuate a culture at the gym that encourages students of all levels to attend as many classes as possible while simultaneously offer the place for students to get additional work outside of training in the classes.

Please keep your eyes open for postings about class times and about our program updates as well as look for signs posted in the gym.

New Schedule

October 5th, 2016

Hey everybody. We’re in the process of working on updating some of our schedule. We will be doing our best to continue to try to offer a schedule that best fits the needs of our students.

At Stay Fly Muay Thai, we aim to offer classes that are designed for everyone. In doing so, we will be adding additional classes that are based in some more intense strength and conditioning focus as well as some beginner only and advanced student only classes. The goal is to offer more specific training to suit each student’s needs.

We will be updating our schedule to include extra classes, so stay tuned to see the updated schedule posted online. Right now, we’re looking to try some new things out and see how students respond to the new things offered to them. Starting in the new year, we will be really looking to revamp a bunch of things in our programs and offer a lot more specificity in classes and programs.

It’s all very exciting and keep your eyes peeled for more information coming soon.

10/1 Gut Check- Newark, DE – Stay Fly Muay Thai

October 3rd, 2016

10/1 Gut Check- Newark, DE

This weekend, we had a few fighters step in the ring for their first time under the Stay Fly Muay Thai banner. Mike Rakay has fought a few times before, but never with our team. Aaron Rhoades and Calvin Au both have done smoker competitions, but never have stepped up to a sanctioned amateur competition. We were excited to see all three of the dudes step in there and do their thing.

First, let me say how proud I am of all of them for the great job they did. They’ve decided to compete, which is a huge first step. Then, they completed the incredibly difficult task of the rigorous preparation of a fight camp. That is by far the toughest part of fighting. Finally, they really all did a great job in the ring on Saturday.

Our first fighter of the night was Calvin. He fought a fighter from Jack’s Gym in Delaware. We were on his turf for this one. Also, they asked for Glory rules, which is just a bit out of our comfort zone. Fighters fight, we say, so of course, we agreed.

As the fight began, Calvin looked calm and composed. He landed hard strikes that clearly affected his opponent. His punches were crisp and hard, stumbling his opponent back, setting up his kicks and knees well. At the close of the round, he earned an 8 count by dropping his opponent with hard punches.

The second round was more of Calvin dominating his opponent. His opponent tried to swing back and was hurt. He had dislocated his shoulder. It wasn’t clear if the injury was due to a strike from Calvin or if it was from swinging punches, but he was unable to continue due to injury. We wish him a speedy recovery and thank him for the opportunity to compete.

Next up was Mike Rakay. He was to compete against a fighter from Rami Elite. Originally, he was scheduled to fight an opponent from Jack’s Gym, but a couple days ago his original opponent had car trouble and would not be able to fight. Thankfully, there was an opponent from Rami Elite who stepped up to take the fight.

Right away, Mike came out swinging hard shots and looked to end it early. His opponent showed true grit and was tough as nails. Mike dominated the fight clearly, being the aggressor and leading the action. He was the better fighter of the night and was awarded the unanimous decision victory.

Our last fighter of the evening was Aaron Rhoades. Our youngest fighter at Stay Fly, Aaron is only 17 years old. This would be his first amateur fight. He was originally scheduled to fight a fighter from Rami Elite who was 15 years old. The fight was changed for him to fight another fighter who was 17, but who had 2 amateur fights. Aaron had worked hard, so we decided to agree to the new fight and have Aaron step up against a more experienced opponent.

As the fight started, Aaron pushed the action and was swinging big punches. He knocked his opponent around the ring and was clearly the stronger fighter. As the fighter’s clinched during the fight, Aaron took a few knees to the groin. it clearly shook him.

As round 2 began, his opponent started finding shots and weather Aaron’s aggression. Then Aaron began to take his foot off the gas pedal. He became frustrated and hurt after the few knees to the groin and never quite pulled himself back together. In the third round, Aaron’s opponent pulled ahead with lots of unanswered strikes that scored well.

It was not what we all know Aaron can do, but it was a learning experience. We’re all excited to see him pick himself back up and get back in there.

All in all, it was a great night of fights. Thanks to everybody who came to show their support. If you see the dudes, tell them congrats. They did well.

Until next time, Stay Fly, kiddos
