I Want to Fight!
Stay Fly Muay Thai is a fighters’ gym. If you’re interested in competing, this is the place to do so. At its core, Muay Thai is a fight sport. The very essence of the art is based in the ring. Many people find the drive to compete as a motivating factor to push themself to maximize their potential. If you’re interested in competing, here’s what steps you should take.
The very first step is showing up. Come in and get started. Get in the gym & begin to understand the sport. Dive in & really immerse yourself in trying to learn as much as possible. Ask questions. Study. Watch those who are doing what it is that you wish to do.
Next, let your goals be known. Tell Justin about your desire to compete. He will take note & let you know what he thinks is a realistic assessment of what to expect. Be patient. Be ready to put lots of work in. When he thinks you are ready, he will invite you to join the fight team training on Saturday mornings. A fighter needs to show a solid grasp & proficiency in all his/her Muay Thai techniques as well as a superior level of conditioning, so be ready to spend lots of time developing in both of those areas. Each student progresses at a different speed, so no general timeline can accurately be given. A fight is a dangerous situation, & Justin will be selective about whom he will put into the ring. No Stay Fly fighters will ever be unprepared. There are two reasons for this. Of course it is based on the level of danger inherent in Muay Thai competition but also because a fighter needs to be able to represent the level of his/her team.
It boils down to the fact that while training Muay Thai is for everyone, fighting is not. If you are interested in fighting & willing to push yourself through the discomfort & hard work to realize that, this is the place where you have the ability to achieve that.
